, "From Van Gogh to Vettriano"
Aberdeen Art Gallery, Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

GDFAS members will be able to view this exhibition of a collection of hidden gems from private collections in the company of Aberdeen Art Gallery curators. This outstanding selection of paintings and sculpture, spanning a wide variety of styles and tastes, has been drawn from several local collections. Included in this display are works by Vincent van Gogh, Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse, British artists Stanley Spencer, Paul Nash and modern masters Lucian Freud and R.B. Kitaj. This exhibition focuses on the connections between the public holdings of the city and the tastes of its private collectors and of course includes a focus on Scottish artist Jack Vettriano.
There will two visit times, 10.15 am and 2pm, each lasting about one hour. Please indicate your time preference on the booking slip below. The cost for this visit will be £5.50 to allow a thank you donation to our excellent Gallery.

Aberdeen University Library and Bindery Visit,
Thursday, March 29th 2012,
GDFAS members will have the opportunity to be guided through the new Aberdeen University Library building and collections, and also, very specially, visit the new University Bindery. With so much to see, the visit will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions with a break for lunch. Photos from the Aberdeen based George Washington Wilson Collection, once the world’s largest photographic collection will be on view as well as an exhibition telling the story of the Aberdeen Harbour Board. We will meet with a morning tea or coffee at 9.45am, then split into small groups for the various guided tours, break for lunch around 12, tour again and finish with afternoon tea at 3pm.
The cost for this whole day session will be £11 to allow a thank you donation to the Library and also cover the costs of the morning and afternoon teas. Lunch will be in the Cafe Zeste, at members own expense and choice, with prices ranging from soups at £2 to main meals at £6 (approximately). Numbers are limited so please book as soon as possible.
